BHUBANESWAR: In yet another setback to the ruling BJD in Odisha ahead of the forthcoming simultaneous polls; Gunupur MLA Trinath Gomango resigned from primary membership of the party on Monday.
Alleging neglect by party leaders in Rayagada district, Trinath submitted his resignation to the political secretary of BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas here.
“Despite working sincerely for the party and people of my constituency, I was not given due importance by party’s district level leadership. In my absence, they have inducted an official-turned-politician without my knowledge,” Trinath told reporters here.
The Gunupur legislator, brother of former MP Hema Gomango and brother-in-law of former chief minister Giridhar Gamang, is reportedly upset with BJD’s decision to replace him in the forthcoming assembly election.
Trinath has joined BJD in 2009. The party had fielded him from the reserved constituency for tribal candidates in 2014.
Asked whether he would join any other party; the outgoing legislator said he will soon take a call after discussions with his voters.
The Gunupur MLA is the third senior leader, who had left the ruling party in past one week. Earlier, party’s Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi and Nilagiri MLA Sukanta Nayak left the party. Majhi switched to the saffron camp recently.
