PATNA: Students, parents and teachers have welcomed the decision of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to introduce internal assessment, project work and practical of at least 20 marks in all subjects during the Class XII exams in 2020.
According to a circular issued to the heads of all CBSE-affiliated schools on March 6, “This is a part of the Board’s thrust on innovative pedagogy that will go a long way in achieving the process of assessment as learning.”
Science student Indrani said, “This initiative taken by the CBSE will ease the burden on students. It’s good that the board is trying to help its students in multiple ways.”
Patna Central School student Krishna Kumar, who studies in Class XII, pointed out, “Now, the mathematics paper will carry 80 marks and the pattern of questions will change as well. We will be able to focus more on competitive exams like engineering.”
Shweta Singh, a Class X student of St Michael’s High School, had a similar opinion. “Students will focus on competitive exams. I am glad that the board has introduced changes,” she said.
Parents also hailed the decision taken by the board to improve learning outcomes. “Students will be able to score more without taking much stress,” said Niranjan Gupta, whose daughter studies in Class XI at Loyola High School.
Abha Chaudhary, a senior teacher at Notre Dame Academy, said the average marks in each subject in Class XII would increase because of the changes made by the board.
