AURANGABAD: A 17-year-old teenager, who was walking on the railway tracks with his headphones plugged in his ears, was crushed to death by a speeding train in the Mukundwadi area on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Priyansh Shamraon Kale, a resident of Rajmata Nagar in Rajnagar of Mukundwadi area. He was first-year student in a junior college. Soon after the mishap, he was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Police said that Pyiyansh used to assist his father in their grocery-cum-stationary shop. As per schedule, he opened the shop on Friday morning and left for home only after his father came to the shop in the evening.

Instead of taking the usual route, Priyansh opted for a short-cut and started walking along the railway tracks in the Mukundwadi area with his headphones plugged into his ears. Priyansh was so engrossed in his cellphone that he could not hear the honking of the train.

Observing that he was completely unaware of the speeding train coming from behind, onlookers tried alerting him by throwing stones at Priyansh but in vain.

An eye-witness told the police that it was when he felt the tremors on the railway tracks, on which he was walking, that he turned back and saw the train. Before he could jump out of the tracks, he was hit by the train that was heading towards Jalna and he was killed on the spot.
