Tropical low of WA's northwest coast could develop into cyclone: BoM
A tropical low currently lying to the northwest of the Kimberley coast is expected to form within an active monsoon trough today or tomorrow and could develop into a cyclone, the Bureau of Meterology has warned.
At this stage the low is forecast to move towards the southwest as it develops.
There is some uncertainty on the system track and intensity, but the risk of a tropical cyclone impacting the Pilbara coast will increase this week and into the weekend.
BoM forecasters are advising Kimberley and Pilbara residents to stay up to date with the latest information on the low due to the highly variable nature of the tropical atmosphere.
With an active monsoon off the Kimberley coast, enhanced showers and thunderstorms will persist throughout the Kimberley and Pilbara for the early parts of this week, particularly in coastal parts.
