As there is a Congress-Janata Dal(S) coalition government in the State, both the parties have decided to field candidates on mutual understanding for the Lok Sabha elections. However, this move will have an adverse impact on the performance of the Congress in the elections.
The party may lose some seats owing to wrong decisions in seat sharing, the former Minister Shivamurthy Naik has said.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, he said that if the Congress had fielded candidates without any coalition compulsions, the party would have won more seats and some new leaders might have had an opportunity to serve the party in a better manner. “The party has also failed to seek the opinion of workers and booth-level leaders on the prospects of candidates winning in the elections,” he added.
Mr. Shivamuthy Naik also said that the party high command has been urged to issue ticket to him in the elections as he had travelled across all taluks of the constituency and there is a favourable response from the voters for the party in the district. “I (Shivamurthy Naik) had also taken up several development works during my tenure as Minister,” he added.
Nagendra, Suresh, Umapathi, Veerendra Kumar and Devraj were present.
