LUCKNOW: With the notification for the first phase of elections to be issued on Monday, all eyes are on ruling BJP which is keeping its cards closed and is yet to announce candidates in UP.

CM Yogi Adityanath, UP BJP president Mahendra Nath Pandey and party organisation secretary Sunil Bansal headed to New Delhi on Sunday to meet BJP chief Amit Shah for finalizing candidates.

A formal declaration is likely to be made on Monday. BJP has shortlisted three tentative candidates for each seat in UP, said sources.

The candidate will be selected from among the three on the basis of ground level feedback from party functionaries and RSS. Sources said that the sitting MPs are among the contenders shortlisted in most seats. Sources said that BJP may play up non-Yadav MBC and non-Jatav Dalit card to counter the SP-BSP alliance.
