39-year-old who robbed rail passengers held
TNN | Mar 19, 2019, 04:55 ISTTirupur: The government railway police nabbed a 39-year-old man, who robbed passengers in trains passing through Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode, in the city on Monday.
The arrested was identified as K Manikandan alias Ayyappan, of Sambavar Vadakarai at Tenkasi in Tirunelveli district.
A special team was formed by the Podanur government railway police after they received many complaints of train robberies, said a police officer.
Acting on a tip, the team searched Tirupur railway station and caught Manikandan. They recovered five sovereigns of gold, five mobile phones and a laptop from the accused, who confessed that he had robbed them from rail passengers. He was remanded in judicial custody and lodged at the Coimbatore Central Jail.
