A day ahead of Lok Sabha election 2019 process starting with filing of nominations, Madurai City police and Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel took out a flag march in various parts of Tallakulam police range in the city on Monday.
Carrying INSAS, self-loading and automatic rifles, and Carbine, one company of ITBP personnel and lathi-wielding city police personnel began the march from Bibikulam junction to instil a sense of security to the voters. The flag march wound through the arterial roads such as P.T. Rajan Road in Tallakulam, 50 Feet Road and 60 Feet Road in Sellur and the thoroughfares of Anaiyur.
The ITBP company, comprising 85 men and officials, has arrived from Rai Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. “We have come here with weapons and crowd control equipment. We will be here for the election-related bandobust work till the counting day,” said ITBP Assistant Commandant Ajay Pal Singh. ITBP personnel have been deployed in Coimbatore and Tiruchi districts also.
More central police force would be deployed in the city in the coming days, a police officer said.
