Brandon Gomes just can’t hold onto a job with the Los Angeles Dodgers. And that’s not a bad thing.
The Durfee High graduate continued his ascension within the Dodgers management with a recent promotion to Vice President and Assistant General Manager.
A former major league pitcher with the Tampa Rays (2011-2015), Gomes, 34, had been the Dodgers’ Director of Player Development since late fall of 2017. He had joined the Dodgers in September of 2016 as Minor League Pitching Coordinator.
He travelled with the Dodgers to Boston for last year’s World Series games 3-4-5 and was part of meetings going over scouting reports and developing strategies.
Reached by text early on Monday, Gomes replied, “This week is slammed. Let’s touch base soon.”
Gomes is the second former Greater Fall River high school baseball player serving as a Major League Baseball vice president. Case High graduate Tommy Tanous is VP, International and Amateur Scouting for the New York Mets. Tanous lives in Barrington, R.I.
Gomes' immediate superior with the Dodgers is President of Baseball Operation Andrew Friendman, who was Tampa Bay G.M. for four of Gomes' five years with the Rays. Both are graduates of Tulane University, where Gomes double majored in legal studies and finance.
