Ytl cops seize Rs11L from vehicle, 2 nabbed

Yavatmal: In probably first cash haul in the region after the declaration of Lok Sabha polls, Yavatmal police have seized nearly Rs11 lakh from a vehicle coming from Chandrapur and detained two carriers along with the vehicle on Saturday night.
According to sources, a flying squad was checking vehicles on the Chandrapur-Yavatmal district border at Abhay diversion on under Shirpur police station when it found cash Rs10.8 lakh from a vehicle having registration number MH 34/BF-8022. As the two occupants could not give satisfactory replies, the cops detained them and seized the cash and vehicle.
The names of the cash carriers are Ashish Widhate and Sachin Girsawale, both residents of Korpana village of Chandrapur district.
“We have seized the cash and the vehicle and immediately informed the SDM of Wani through election cell of Bramanwade for further action. The Wani SDM has sent his revenue staff to the site where they have conducted the seizure panchnama and the cash has been deposited in the treasury,” superintendent of police M Rajkumar said.
The police have formed 22 flying squads as per the orders of the Election Commission to keep vigil on district borders. The income tax department’s nodal officer also has been informed about the cash seizure, he said.
“If the investigation establishes that the amount is meant for election purposes, we shall lodge an FIR against the duo,” the SP added.
