Couple convert an old gate destined for landfill into a luxury Hamptons-style picnic table for FREE
- Hayley Bishop and her husband Graham, from Perth, are DIY fans with talent
- For Hayley's birthday the couple transformed a gate from Gumtree into a table
- Graham just needed to cut the timber down to specific measurements to make it
- They used it as an outdoor picnic table to put grazing platters on for Hayley
A couple who wanted to host a lavish birthday picnic built a Hamptons-style table out of an old gate they found on Gumtree and transformed it into the perfect surface for a grazing platter.
Hayley Bishop, who is based in Perth, had spotted a beautiful white wooden table being used at her friend's birthday party and wanted to recreate it - without spending a fortune on hiring an events company.
'I looked into this and found the price to be way out of my budget, so hubby and I did what we do best and made the tables for free,' she told Better Homes and Gardens.

DIY fan Hayley, 36, enlisted the help of her husband Graham Lyttle, who collected free gates from Gumtree to complete the project.
He had to remove the hinges from the gate - to make it sit flat as a surface - and cut it down to size, screwing in the cut-off timber as 'legs' for the table.
Hayley helped by painting the wooden slats white and sourcing the grazing platter materials from Kmart - including cushions, napkins, napkin rings, placemats, flowers and platters.

'I also placed battery operated bulb lights around the table to use at night time, which I already had at home,' she told the publication.
In terms of the food spread on the table, Ms Bishop provided crackers, cheese, meats, fruit and chocolates for her guests to choose from.
The day was a huge success and garnered a number of positive compliments when it was shared on Facebook.
