Family refuses NZ offer to perform her last rites there

The body of Anzi Ali Bava, the Kodungalloor native killed in the New Zealand terror attack, is expected to be brought home this week.

Once the New Zealand authorities issue the release orders, the body of the deceased could be brought home in four days, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Sunday.

Expressing shock at the attack, he said NoRKA-Roots was in constant touch with the Indian High Commissioner in New Zealand. NoRKA-Roots officials said her body would be brought to Kerala within four days of it being handed over.

On Sunday morning, the police reportedly informed the High Commissioner that the body would be released within 24 hours.

Ansi, who had moved to New Zealand with her husband Abdul Nazer, was pursuing her masters in agribusiness management at the Lincoln University. She was killed in the shooting at the Al Noor Mosque, one of the two mosques in Christchurch that came under attack.

According to sources, the family rejected the request of the New Zealand government to perform her last rites there.
