Ludhiana: Panic gripped Shivpuri area following rumours of acid attack against a minor girl on Saturday morning. Though police later cleared the air, saying that the liquid the youth was holding was just a dishwasher, they arrested him as a preventive measure for stalking the girl.

Sources said the 18-year-old hosiery worker had been allegedly stalking a Class VIII student and forcing her to marry him.

ADCP-1 Gurpreet Singh Sikand said the girl was going to her school around 8.30am, when the accused met her on the way and asked her to marry him. The girl warned the youth that if he repeats the act, she would complain to his parents. But the boy said he will marry her at any cost. In anger, he also threw away the bottle containing dishwasher on the road and left the spot.

The official said later, the youth went to his factory and the girl to her school. Later, she told her parents about the morning incident.

The official said though the family of the girl was not willing to lodge a complaint in this regard, police arrested the youth as part of preventive measure.
