A 19-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly killing three persons, including his grandfather, the police said on Saturday.
The accused, Vikas alias Vicky, from Rohtak, was nabbed after a brief exchange of fire in Dwarka on Thursday afternoon. He allegedly confessed to killing three persons since March 7 over ‘personal enimity’.
The police said Head Constable Sunil and Constables Navdeep and Deepak were patrolling in Jharoda Kalan when they spotted two men on a sports bike, coming from Dichaun Kalan around 1.30 p.m.
“The officers asked them to stop, but the accused took a turn and tried to escape. Mr. Sunil rammed his bike into theirs after which the duo fell and started running in different directions,” Mr. Alphonse said.
Two officers ran behind the accused and one officer chased the other. Vikas allegedly fired in the direction of two officers after which they fired back and managed to overpower him.
“The other accused [Arun] managed to flee after stopping a rider at gunpoint,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said.
During interrogation, Vikas allegedly told police that he is a member of Sandeep alias Kala Jathedia gang of Haryana and has committed three murders in a little over one week.
Property dispute
On March 7, the accused shot dead his grandfather Ram Pal at their residence.
“He said there was a property dispute between him and the victim. He had lost both his parents years ago and his sister lives with his aunt. He wanted his grandfather to name the property after him,” said a senior officer.
On March 9, the accused along with his accomplices allegedly murdered a bus driver in Sonepat over personal enmity, the police said.
On Thursday morning, the accused and his accomplices allegedly shot dead a liquor contractor Narendra alias Nanda in Sonepat. “The accused claimed that they had fired over 30 rounds to kill the contractor. They were coming after the murder when they were intercepted,” said an officer.
The police said Vikas started committing crimes after his parents’ death.
He has allegedly committed several robberies with his accomplices Raju Basodia, Pawan Totla, Sachin, Arun Sampla and Mohit Smapla, the police said.
Police teams are looking for Arun, they added.
