BHOPAL: Delhi High Court on Saturday stayed all the orders passed by Dental Council of India (DCI) through which admissions of more than 50 students in various private dental colleges of the state for the session 2018-19 were cancelled in January 2019. It is big relief for dental college students. The court stayed DCI orders saying prima facie it seems to be in violation of principles of natural justice and asked all respondents to file their replies by April 15, 2019.
Advocate Sidharth Gupta who appeared on behalf of students, said that none of the petitioners were flouting any of the eligibility conditions fixed by the DCI. They all were meritorious, found good ranks in national level NEET examination and even possessed higher marks than students admitted through the counseling process of the state government. DCI order is inherently vitiated having being passed without hearing any of the students.
In fact, state government conducted centralised counselling for admissions to medical and dental courses in the State , which for dental courses concluded on September 15,2018. On the last date of admissions and counselling, when seats in 100’s of numbers were left vacant in various private dental colleges of state, they gave admissions to more than 50 students at the college level through their college level counselling.
The students who could not get registered in the counselling took admissions against the various private seats that were lying vacant without any claimants coming to stake claim against such seats. However the DCI on the letters forwarded by the state government cancelled the admissions of all such students in January 2019 on grounds that they were not admitted through the centralised counselling process of the state government.
