‘Maximum cases booked in East Godavari’

The Prohibition and Excise Department is conducting raids across the State to check violations in sale and storage of liquor and to unearth narcotics.

The department staff have seized 35,000 litres of liquor worth ₹1.40 crore in addition to 113 units of drugs and narcotics worth ₹17 lakh in raids carried out in the last 15 days.

Prohibition and Excise Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meena said maximum cases were booked in East Godavari district which yielded 8,209 litres of non-duty paid liquor, illicit liquor and arrack worth ₹28 lakh, followed by Visakhapatnam where 6,574 litres of illicit liquor worth ₹28 lakh was seized.

He said the minimum stocks of seized liquor were from Nellore district (142 litres worth ₹70,000), followed by Kadapa (150 litres), Guntur (600 litres), Chittoor (717 litres), Vizianagaram (1,018 litres), Prakasam (1,343 litres), Kurnool (,1660 litres), Anantapur (1,760 litres), West Godavari (2,853 litres), Krishna (3,916 litres) and Srikakulam (6,191 litres).

Mr. Meena said any complaint related to the department could be lodged by calling toll-free number 18004254846 or landline no. 0866 2428333. He said the identity of the complainants would not be revealed.

A control room was being set up, he said, adding wall postersand hoardings with important information would be put up at vantage points across the State.

Warning people against exercising their franchise under the influence of liquor, he said every individual should vote in a responsible manner.
