JAIPUR: One of Rajasthan’s top gold robbers, involved in plotting the sensational 57kg gold heists from Kota and Jaipur personal finance companies, was on Saturday gunned down by the Special Task Force (STF) in Bihar’s Vaishali district.

Manish Kumar Singh, a native of Vaishali, was gunned down along with his two aides — Mohammad Abdul Aman and Abdul Imam on Saturday. Singh’s name first cropped up for his alleged involvement in Muthoot gold loot case in 2017. Subsequently, a year later, Kota police in 2018 confirmed his involvement in planning the robbing in the Manappuram gold loan case.

A team of Jaipur crime branch, including the then DCP (Crime) Dr Vikas Pathak, had camped for several days alongside Bihar and Jharkhand border to track down the gang responsible for decamping with 30kg of gold worth Rs nine crore from Muthoot office in Jaipur’s Mansarovar area on July 20, 2017.

The crime branch managed to nab chief conspirator Subodh Kumar Singh from Bihar with the help of Bihar STF. During subsequent interrogation, the accused had named Manish Kumar Singh as one of the main accused.

Even while the police were raiding for the fleeing criminal, Manish Kumar Singh, his gang struck again at Kota’s Manappuram gold loan office on January 22 and made away with 27kg of gold worth over several crores. “Kota police had arrested two of Singh’s aides — Gulab Singh and Sushil Kumar, natives of Uttar Pradesh, from Delhi in February 2018. Both Gulab and Kumar claimed Manish was the prime accused.

But he had gone off our radar soon after the duo was arrested from Delhi,” an official told TOI. The crime branch officials who had investigated the gang’s modus operandi said that Manish Kumar Singh had conducted similar robberies in other cities too. “He moved freely across many states, renting flats on forged ID cards,” the official said.
