MUMBAI: A Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) personnel landed in hospital after being stabbed by a man who he apprehended on suspicion at Borivli station on Thursday.
The victim, Sumit Karande (24), was shifted to the ICU at Nair Hospital on Friday as he has sustained a deep cut in the liver. "His condition is serious," his brother Rohit told TOI.

This could be the first such attack on a personnel of the MSF since its formation in 2010 to patrol city railway stations.

The incident took place on Thursday around 10.30am, when Karande was on patrol duty on platforms 6/7. He noticed a man loitering on the platform and questioned him suspecting that he was a wanted criminal. "As Karande was taking the man to the railway police's office, the latter whipped out a knife and stabbed Karande between his chest and abdomen and escaped. When Karande tried to catch him, the man slashed his hands," said Borivli railway police senior inspector Sanjay Patil. "Teams are going through the CCTV footage to identify the suspect."

Commuters alerted the railway police who rushed Karande to Shatabdi Hospital. He received four stitches and was treated for cuts on his hands.

Karande had joined the MSF a year ago and was posted at Borivli station since two months. "He spoke with us before he was shifted to Nair hospital. He was worried that he may have to undergo a surgery for the deep cut on the liver."
