HYDERABAD: The exodus of Congress MLAs to the ruling TRS seems to be unstoppable. Yet another Congress MLA, D Sudheer Reddy representing LB Nagar Assembly segment, on Friday met TRS working president K T Rama Rao and made known his plan to join the ruling party. Sudheer Reddy will be joining TRS soon after meeting chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. He will be the seventh legislator from the Congress to defect to the TRS in the last 15 days.
With this, the Congress is on the verge of losing Leader of Opposition (LoP) status in the Telangana assembly. The Congress requires at least 12 MLAs in the 120-member Assembly to retain the LoP status. When TOI sent an SMS asking Sudheer Reddy if he was joining TRS or met KCR or KTR, Sudheer replied to SMS saying he indeed had met KTR. He replied to the sms stating "I met KTR."
Sources close to Sudheer Reddy said that he told his followers that he met KTR and that he is going to meet KCR in two to three days and join TRS.
Danger for Cong if 5 more MLAs join TRS
The TRS working president KTR has assured full support and cooperation for the development of LB Nagar constituency. The development plans include beautification of LB Nagar water bodies, solution to BN Reddy Nagar properties registration issue, higher property tax being collected in some of the areas in the constituency among other issues, Sudheer told his close aides. More Congress MLAs are reportedly in touch with the TRS leadership. The chief minister himself had told TRS leaders recently that at least 10 Congress legislators were ready to join the ruling party soon and the count till Friday evening touched 7.
If TRS lures 12 of the total 19 Cong MLAs, the anti-defection law will not be applicable and the defectors can seek merger of CLP into TRS fold. Other Congress MLAs whose names are doing rounds as possible defectors include Sangareddy MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy, Bhadrachalam MLA Podem Veeraiah, Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, Kothagudem MLA Vanama Venkateshwar Rao and Kollapur MLA Beeram Harshvardhan Reddy. However, all these legislators denied that they are in touch with the TRS leaders.
