Indore: Good organizations design their structures to align with their culture and strategy. The strategy is aligned to their vision and mission. These were the mantras given by management expert Prafful Nilosey, while addressing the HR Forum meeting here at Jaal Auditorium. The meeting was organised by Indore Management Association on the subject ‘organisational structure’. He started his session by stating that “Every organization has its own Organization Design, formal or informal, structured or unstructured. The organization design plays a crucial role in delivering performance and results.
Through a very interesting and almost hilarious case study, Nilosey simplified the dry and complicated subject of Organization Structure. Speaking at the HR Conclave of IMA, Indore, he established that besides leadership quality, the organization structure is critical to deliver performance. The organization structure must align with its vision, mission, strategy and culture. Depending upon the organization’s strategy and culture, it must choose between a hierarchical or a matrix structure. He explained the strong, weak and balanced matrices with their merits and demerits.
With mega projects, large organizations / MNCs, matrix structures with multiple reporting are becoming the order of the day. The leadership must choose the right structure and deal with the challenges that come with each type of structure for best performance. The interactive program generated a good participation by the audience as well.
Using another very simple and interesting case study, authored by the faculty, this programme, aims to discuss matrix organization structures applicable for some typical organizations, such as Projects / Products / Creative and R&D types. The participants will gain insights into the relationships between functional / competency managers and project managers.
