MUMBAI: The crucial D N Road stretch between CSMT junction and JJ flyover remained closed entire day on Friday as authorities dismantled the ill-fated Himalaya bridge. The stretch, which connects south Mumbai to the rest of the city, is likely to open for traffic on Saturday after cops inspect it in the morning.
The bridge was brought down on Friday and debris cleaning work was on till the time of going to press. “Nearly 100 personnel from the traffic police department and local police stations were deployed to ensure smooth vehicular movement. The route is likely to be opened on Saturday as the work is expected to be completed by then. We will tweet the update,” said Mumbai police spokesperson DCP Manjunath Singe.
A police officer said as the stretch was closed, traffic jams were reported in nearby areas leading to Eastern Freeway. Motorists were advised to use Mahapalika Marg from CSMT to Metro Junction and ahead towards Princess Street Flyover or Crawford Market and Mohammed Ali Road. Those coming from JJ Flyover were asked take a right turn towards Crawford Market.
