Police asked to provide security to staff removing illegal advertisements

District Collectors have been asked to file reports to Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena on model code of conduct violations and the action taken by 5 p.m. every day.

On Thursday, Mr. Meena had asked Collectors to remove boards, posters and other campaign material that are in violation of the code. Joint CEO K. Jeevan Babu has been appointed as nodal officer for examining the reports filed by the Collectors.

Religious symbols

Mr. Jeevan Babu will also examine complaints regarding the use of religious symbols, photographs and pictures in the campaigns. Advertisements placed on public roads, properties under the Local Self-government Department and public transport in violation of the code will be removed with immediate effect.

The police have been asked to provide security to the staff assigned to remove illegal advertisements.

As part of the measures, the CEO has also ordered the removal of references of Ministers, politicians or political parties that are in violation of the code from Central and State government websites.

Review of arrangements

On Thursday, the CEO had called a review of the election arrangements in the State. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary T.K. Jose; Principal Secretary (Transport) K.R. Jyothilal; State Police Chief Loknath Behera; Special Secretary (PWD) K. Mini; ADGP Ananthakrishnan; IGs Dinendra Kashyap and P. Vijayan; and LSG secretary Gopalakrishna Bhatt were present.
