Many people were seen waiting in long queues at Mee-Seva Centres and at the Panchayat and Mandal Revenue Offices for voter enrolment on Friday, thanks to the wide publicity on voter registration and the right to vote given by the election authorities.
Friday was the last day for voter enrolment.
Status verification
District Collector and District Election Officer Md. Imtiyaz said that voters could enrol their name in the electoral rolls by uploading their photograph, age and address proof, after submitting name, age, father’s name and other particulars, till Friday midnight (i.e. 12 a.m).
Several voters were seen standing at the Mee-Seva Centres and at the government offices with their Aadhaar and PAN cards and other documents to register their name in the electoral list.
Some people were seen waiting at the centres to verify their votes in their respective Assembly and Parliament constituencies.
However, many complained that the portal of the Election Commission of India was not working properly to register their vote online.
“I tried several times since morning, but I could not register my vote online in the portal. The official website was not functional,” said P. Srujana, who was waiting at an internet centre in Vijayawada.
