The model code of conduct for elections will be strictly enforced in the capital district, Collector K. Vasuki has said.
Ms. Vasuki told The Hindu on Friday that despite a High Court order on removal of unauthorised flags, boards, banners, and posters from public places, these were rampant in the city. Each time these were removed, they kept reappearing. The district administration would persist with efforts to take them down.
Squads to check violations of the code had become very active. Time had been given to service organisations to remove their banners and posters from offices and premises, and those which remained would be taken off by the squads at the earliest. She said the Election Commission of India kept a close watch on the observance of the code. There were strict directions from the Chief Electoral Officer too.
