Contouring, strobing, highlighting – Instagram has been popularising beauty trends for a while now. Unicorn hair, armpit hair colouring, lion-mane brows exist all thanks to this photo-sharing site. The latest to join is ‘yoga skin’ – a technique, created and coined by makeup artist Sara Hill. It is all about getting your best skin without bending over backwards in a chakrasana.
Get your inner glow out
If we are talking glow, know that trends like strobing, glass skin are not the same as yoga skin. Hill, in an interview to Glamour, said: “Yoga skin is a look that feels real. ‘Glass skin’ and similar trends are about creating a perfected, flawless complexion, but yoga skin is about creating luscious, fresh and juicy skin that looks natural, but glowing with health.” The idea is to recreate the radiance that you get after stepping out of a yoga studio.
How to get yoga skin
Hill put up a tutorial on her Instagram account that has now gone viral. It starts with regular face cream that has to be left on the skin for five minutes, followed by a primer. After that, you need to make the skin mix – the key to the look. It is 60-70 per cent foundation, 15 per cent facial oil, 10 per cent liquid illuminator, 5 per cent glow drops. If you have dry skin, put in a little moisturiser – those with oily skin can use more foundation.
This cocktail is then massaged on to the skin using your hands, in layers. The idea is to really work it in the skin to get the blood pumping for a natural flush. Apply liquid or cream concealer where you feel you need extra coverage, using a fluffy eyeshadow brush for a lighter cover. You can use powder but keep it minimal as the dewy look goes away. Yes, it’s not that easy. Then again, it is definitely simpler than an hour in the gym!
