BHOPAL: BSP MLA Rama Bai Parihar’s husband and other family members have been booked for killing Congress worker in Hatta of Damoh district on Friday. Parihar is an MLA from Patharia. Damoh SP RS Belwanshi told Free Press that Devendra Chourasia, a Congress worker, and his son Sandesh had gone to their stone crusher situated on Patera Road. Around 10.30 am, seven men, including Govind Singh (husband of Rama Bai), his brother and nephew Golu Singh reached the spot.
They were accompaniedby district panchayat president Indrapal Singh’s son and three other reached the spot and attacked the father-son duo with sharp-edged weapons. The father-son duo were seriously injured but were saved by workers at the stone crusher and others. They were rushed to district hospital, where doctors referred them to Jabalpur Medical College.
Devendra succumbed to injuries during course of treatment around 4pm, while doctors described the condition of his son as critical. The police initially registered a case under Section 307 against the seven accused. However, after Devendra’s death, Section 302 was added to it. As the news of Devendra’s death reached Hatta, tension gripped the area, partymen and supporters gathered at the spot and raised slogans against the BSP MLA and the police administration.
POLITICAL RIVALRY BLAMED FOR MURDER
Attack has is genesis in political rivalry. Devendra was a BSP member and had recently joined the Congress. Devendra’s wife is member of district panchayat member and had recently brought a no confidence motion against district panchayat president Indrajeet Patel. The motion was dropped after MLA Rama Bai backed Patel. Since then both parties were at dagger’s end.
