Man gets 3 year in jail for molesting minor
tnn | Mar 17, 2019, 04:49 ISTThiruvananthapuram: A special court here sentenced a man for three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for molesting a 17-year-old girl in public, on Saturday. The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 25,000 on Sabu (41) of Idavilakom near Veyiloor.
The incident pertaining to the case took place on June 20, 2017, at Murukkumpuzha when the girl was going to tuition class on foot around 6am. The man was walking in the opposite direction and as he reached near, he molested her.
‘’The brave girl confronted him single-handedly and stopped him from getting away. A passer-by came to her aid and apprehended the harasser and handed him over to the police,” said Pocso special public prosecutor Valsa Varghese.
Defaulting in paying the penalty would result in extension of the sentence by two months. The sentence was delivered by additional district and sessions judge P N Seetha, who is in charge of the special court for cases related to sexual atrocities and violence towards women and children. tnn
