A peer team of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) on Friday visited Kanchi Mamunivar Centre for Postgraduate Studies (Autonomous) for accreditation.
The three-member team headed by Mazaahir Kidwai, Department of History, University of Delhi, interacted with the Principal Aravazhi Irissappan on the facilities available for research activities, library facility, sports, upgrading of faculty and other administrative modes.
The team interacted with the Deans and Chairman of Board of Studies and Department Heads on planning and documentation for curriculum designing process. The members visited the departments to assess the learning levels of students, student centric methods for enhancing learning experiences, innovation and creativity in teaching and learning, internal assessment and examination management system.
The team reviewed the admission process, teaching methods followed, performance of students, research and development facilities, co-curricular and extracurricular activities of the departments, achievements of students and faculty, research publications and so on.
According to an official, “This is NAAC’s third visit to the centre. NAAC accorded ‘A’ Grade in 2013 and declared it as a Centre with Potential for Excellence. After assessing the requirements, the committee would recommend its grade for the centre. Based on the certification and grade by NAAC, the Union Government will accordingly sanction financial grant for further infrastructural, research and development activities.”
The Kanchi Mamunivar Centre for Postgraduate Studies was established in 1989 and obtained its autonomous status in 2007-08 followed by the implementation of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in 2012-13. Apart from PG and M. Phil courses, the Centre offers Ph.D programmes in English, Commerce, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Computer Science, History, Economics, Chemistry, Physics, French and Tamil.
