Legendary MC has decided to skip the Asian Women's Championship to prepare for the bigger events ahead and in her absence, silver medallist will lead the 20-member Indian contingent at the event, to be held in from April 16 to 27.

Six-time world champion Mary Kom, who won India's solitary gold medal at the 2017 edition in Vietnam, wants to focus on the World Championships to be held later this year.

In Mary Kom's absence, Sonia and former gold medallist and ex-world junior champion will spearhead the Indian contingent.

A lot of talented youngsters has made it to the team on the basis of the three-day trials held at the A total of 46 boxers appeared in trials.

In 60kg, veteran Sarita beat Parveen 4-1 and will be making her comeback after losing narrowly in the pre-quarter-finals at last year's World Championships.

India's hopes in 64kg will rest on Punjab's and Assam's Lovlina Borgohain, bronze medallist in 2017, will be the one to watch out for in 69kg.

While Simranjeet beat the talented Pwilao Basumatary 5-0, Lovlina pummelled by an identical scoreline.
