bollywood Updated: Mar 16, 2019 16:44 ISTThe awards season is upon us, beginning with the Filmfare Awards. Recently, Manoj Bajpayee took potshots at film awards for not nominating his films and now Badhaai Ho writer Jyoti Kapoor has called out the Filmfare Awards. She is upset that her name has been dropped from the Best Story category, in which the film has been nominated.
While she was credited along with Akshat Ghildial and Shantanu Srivastava initially by Filmfare, her name was unceremoniously dropped by Thursday, says a report in Mid Day. “My name was included in the nominees’ list on Wednesday morning, until it magically disappeared. I wrote to [the producers] Priti Shahani [president, Junglee Pictures] and Vineet Jain [MD, Times Group] requesting them to reinstate my name. But clearly, nothing has been done about it.”
However, the report goes on to give the film producers’ side as well. Priti of Junglee Pictures said that though Jyoti was part of the initial team, her contract ended in 2016. The contract stated that if any part of her story or character is used, she would be given credit. However, her bit wasn’t used.
Priti added that only Shantanu and Akshat have been credited as the writers of the film in the credit roll. Jyoti’s name has been mentioned separately ‘in good faith’.
However, Jyoti maintains that the premise of the film (parents of adult children get pregnant, leading to a crisis in the family) was her idea and it was duly registered. Her basic story was called Hum Do Hamaare Char, on the basis of which, Junglee had hired her. Jyoti further said that she would legally pursue the matter.
Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Badhaai Ho was directed by Amit Sharma and also starred Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao, Surekha Sikri and Sanya Malhotra in important roles.
