Tamil Nadu: 18 sovereign gold chain robbed from woman in Dharmapuri

DHARMAPURI: Two unidentified men, who came on a bike, snatched a gold chain, weighing 18 sovereigns, of a woman in Dharmapuri town on Friday evening.


According to Dharmapuri town police, V Ganesah, 50, of Melendapatty village in Dharmapuri district is working as a supervisor in a Tasmac outlet. He came to a nationalised bank with his wife Palaniammal, 43, to receive the 18 sovereign gold chain which was mortgaged one year ago.


When they came out of the bank, two persons suddenly approached the couple and said that some currency notes were found on the road. “Ganesh and Palaniammal when turned the other side to collect the currency notes, the duo suddenly grabbed the hand bag from Palaniammal and sped fast,” the police said. The police also said that the couple also kept Rs 40,000 cash in the bag along with the gold chain.


The couple lodged complaint with Dharmapuri town police. A case was registered and further inquiry is on.
