Vadodara: A video made rounds on social media on Saturday where a traffic cop was seen issuing a memo to a cyclist near Chakli Circle on Race Course Road. It later turned out that the video was correct but it was shared by netizens with incorrect information.
The traffic branch of city police issued a clarification stating that the memo was actually issued to a truck driver and not a cyclist.
The video was shot by an unknown person on Friday morning and later shared by many Barodians on phone and social media websites. The video invited flurry of jokes and criticism of traffic police as the truck was not seen in the video. In the two-minute video, the man is seen paying the fine to the traffic cop and signing on the memo as the violator of traffic rule. The traffic policeman then hands over the receipt to the man. The video ends with the man leaving from the spot on his bicycle.
On Saturday morning, the traffic branch officials explained that the cyclist identified as Ramesh Vaadi was actually a truck driver.
He was stopped near Chakli Circle by the traffic head constable Iqbal Yakubbhai and asked to pay a fine of Rs100. As Vaadi was not carrying his wallet, Iqbal asked him to park his truck on the side of the road and get money from his house in Gorwa.
Vaadi went home and returned with money on his bicycle. It was then that the video was shot. However, the police have not investigated about the source of the video.
