A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Haryana, Rattan Lal Kataria, on Saturday made controversial remarks against Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his late father Rajiv Gandhi over the Bofors case.
Speaking in Panchkula, Kataria said, "Iska baap toh mar gaya, Rahul ka, Bofors kaand ke laaga chunri mein daag mitaaoon kaise, voh to iss dunia se chala gaya aur daag mitte nahi. Aur voh hamein keh rahe hain."
Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, Kataria brought up the Bofors scandal, saying that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated in 1991, has died and left this scam behind.
Meanwhile, the BJP and the Opposition exchanged attacks at each other ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
PM Narendra Modi on Saturday urged his supporters to take the 'main bhai chowkidar' pledge, saying he is not alone in the fight against graft and social evils.
Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation.
Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) March 16, 2019
But, I am not alone.
Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar.
Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar.
Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar
Shortly, the Congress hit back alleging that all PM Modi has done is to help big industrialists like Anil Ambani and Gautam Adani.
To counter PM Modi's three minute video, Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted an image of PM Modi with Anil Ambani, Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksey, Vijay Mallya and others, showing the 'main bhai chowkidar' pledge with a different viewpoint.
Rahul Gandhi said, "Defensive tweet Mr Modi! You feeling a little guilty today?"
