BJP meet confers on candidates

The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday discussed the names of its candidates for the Lok Sabha as well as by-polls in three electoral constituencies with its MLAs, during a meeting held at the party’s city headquarters.

It is learnt that Shripad Naik and Narendra Sawaikar have been named as the party’s candidates for Lok Sabha elections in  the North Goa and South Goa constituencies, respectively.

The names of Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar have been suggested as the BJP candidates for by-polls in Mandrem and Shiroda constituencies.

The names of Joshua D’Souza and Sudhir Kandolkar have been short-listed for the Mapusa by-election, with Kandolkar

being the hot favourite, and the same would now be put before the state election committee headed by state BJP president Vinay Tendulkar.

The state election committee of the BJP, which will meet on Sunday, will endorse the list of party’s candidates for Lok Sabha and three by-polls.

Tendulkar and the state organisational secretary of the party Satish Dhond, who will attend the meeting of the BJP’s central election committee in New Delhi on March 18, will submit the list of five candidates to the committee.

The names are expected to be officially announced on the same say.

Meanwhile, the state organisational secretary of BJP met D’Souza and Kandolkar Saturday afternoon, and discussed party’s candidature for Mapusa by-election with them.
