Sterlite Copper gets new CEO

Pankaj Kumar to take charge immediately

Thoothukudi-based Sterlite Copper has appointed Pankaj Kumar as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with immediate effect. In addition to the unit’s copper operations, he will also oversee operations at Malco Energy Limited (MEL) and Fujairah Gold (FZH).

P. Ramnath who led Sterlite Copper for the past eight years has retired from the role of CEO and will now be staying on in the capacity of a senior advisor to the organisation. Pankaj Kumar has worked with Sterlite Copper in the past as the Chief Operating Officer. He has been placed at the helm of affairs at Sterlite Copper at a critical juncture in the company’s journey in Thoothukudi. According to a statement from the company, Mr. Kumar has nearly 29 years industry experience and has previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Director - Smelters at Hindustan Zinc. Prior to that, he worked in Tata Steel, Adani Ports and Mittal Steel.

The statement quoted him as saying, “I have come at a time when many interesting projects for the development of the region as well as its people are in the pipeline.”

Outgoing CEO Mr. Ramnath added, “my tenure as the CEO has been an eventful journey and as is the case with any journey, there have been numerous ups and downs. However, the one thing that will continue to remain steadfast is our commitment towards the well-being of the people of Thoothukudi and nothing will take precedence over that.”
