The elections to the Lok Sabha from the border constituency of Chamarajanagar is set to turn interesting with old warhorse V. Srinivas Prasad reportedly reconsidering his decision to retire from electoral politics and deciding to plunge into the poll arena again.

A five-time MP and two-time MLA, Mr. Prasad, who joined the BJP after quitting the Congress, had announced his retirement from electoral politics following his rout in the byelection to the Assembly from Nanjangud in 2017.

But, Mr. Prasad, who is under pressure from his supporters and BJP leaders to return to the electoral fray from Chamarajanagar (reserved seat) in the coming elections, is shortly expected to make an announcement.

Mr. Prasad, a Dalit leader, met BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa in Bengaluru on Friday. Sources close to Mr. Prasad told The Hindu that the leader had sought two days’ time to announce his decision.

If Mr. Prasad returns to the electoral fray from Chamarajanagar, a keen electoral battle is expected, with the incumbent MP, R. Dhruvanarayan.
