Three Punjabi University professors to contest Lok Sabha elections

Representative imagePATIALA: Three professors of Punjabi University Patiala and its neighbourhood campuses had decided to jump into the politics and contest Lok Sabha polls this year.
Having a vast experience in their scholarly fields the professors who claimed to have interest in the politics had now decided to contest the elections.
Around four professionals including 1 from Punjabi University main campus and 3 others from neighbourhood campus in Talwandi sabo headshot permission from the university authorities in the syndicate meeting held on Friday evening to contest the elections 2019. The university authorities however gave permission 23 professor and had kept the decision for fourth pending.
One among these professor is son of former three times MLA of CPI M. All these assistant professors had decided to contest independently in the Lok Sabha polls scheduled for May 19 in Punjab.
The university had granted permission to Rajdeep Singh who is an Assistant Professor in department of Law in main university campus; Sunil Kumar Baghla and assistant professor Lakhwinder Singh who both are assistant professor at university's Yadvindra college of Engineering Talwandi Sabo.
Rajdeep Singh, 38, of Patiala said, " I am planning to contest the elections Patiala Lok Sabha seat as i feel there is a dearth of educated people in the politics who are elected as legislators of the member parliament. My father has been elected three times MLA from Sherpur constituency of Barnala in a period 1971 to 1985 he had also contested twice for Lok Sabha elections on Sangrur constituency. The parliamentarians haven't worked as they could have done. I would contest for first time in any elections but I had decided to contest individually."
Sunil Baghla, who hails from Bathinda, said, "There's a need for educated and clean people to come forward in times when nepotism had prevailed. The politics in Punjab have become stagnant as youth have no opportunity while only the children of politicians are coming forward to run the leadership of their ancestors as a business. I would contest as an individual. No doubt the political scenario demand money to contest elections but I would take help of social media and moral support from my colleagues and students " I am a resident of Bathinda city but basically hails from Raman mandi town of district."
