lok sabha elections Updated: Mar 16, 2019 10:02 ISTThe Congress has so far received over 1,200 applications from aspiring candidates for the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana for the upcoming elections, state Congress chief Ashok Tanwar said on Friday.
“The selection of candidates will be made by the central leadership of the party,” Tanwar said while addressing a press conference here.
Reacting to Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal’s remark that if the Congress joins hands with AAP and Jannayak Janata Party in Haryana, their the alliance will definitelt defeat the ruling BJP, Tanwar said, “I must thank Arvind Kejriwal that he publicly accepted that the Congress is in a strong position. After all, that’s why he wants to ally with our party.”
He added, “But there is no need of any alliance for defeating the BJP. If he really wants to support the Congress, he can support us like he supported the JJP during the Jind bypoll.”
Tanwar accused the BJP government in Haryana of increasing the debt on the state. He said during 2014-15, there was a debt of Rs 92,000 crore on the state, which increased to Rs 1.40 lakh crore in 2016-17.
