Allahabad: Actor and Congress leader Raj Babbar on Saturday surrendered before the special judge (MP and MLA) in a criminal case filed against him and his supporters at Hazratganj police station of Lucknow in 2015, in which it is alleged that Babbar along with his supporters, while defying prohibitory orders, was proceeding to gherao the Assembly.

After surrender, special judge Pawan Kumar Tiwari took him into judicial custody. Subsequently, a bail application was moved on behalf of Babbar, which was allowed by the court and he was directed to be released on interim bail.

The matter was shifted here after the setting up of the special court (MP and MLA) on the direction of the apex court. This court exclusively deals with criminal cases pending against members of state legislature and Parliament.
