PATNA: The forthcoming Lok Sabha polls will not affect the ongoing evaluation work of Intermediate and Matriculation exams conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB). So claim the state board officials.

According to BSEB officials, if poll dates clash with those of paper evaluation work, they usually hamper the entire process as most teachers are involved in election duty. The board, however, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that results of both the exams are published on time, irrespective of the upcoming election.

“Teachers have been asked to evaluate answer sheets in two shifts from 8am to 7pm and computer operators deputed for tabulation work. All the computers are attached to the BSEB headquarters in Patna which automatically receives all information, including marks, related to a student,” the board officials said.

The evaluation of answer sheets of Inter students began from March 2 and that of Matric examinees started from March 9 at altogether 309 centres across the state. While the first one is likely to be completed in a week, the evaluation work of Matric exams may take two more weeks to be completed.

Chemistry teacher Rakesh Kumar Singh, who teaches at Government Senior Secondary School-Rajendra Nagar, is involved in evaluation duty. “Our work is easier now because of objective-type questions which are checked by optical mark recognition scanners. Besides, the use of pre-printed answer sheets ensures that there are no mistakes on the first page of an answer sheet,” Singh said.

Another evaluator Ashutosh Kumar, a mathematics teacher of Raghunath Uchh Balika Vidyalaya-Kankerbagh, expects to complete the evaluation of Class XII answer sheets before Holi. “We will be engaged in election duty after April 8,” he told this newspaper.

The BSEB may declare the results of both the exams much before the expected time this year. Last year, the Inter and Matric results were announced on June 6 and June 26, respectively.

Ravikant Prasad, a student who wrote the Matric exams this year, said, “If the BSEB announces the results on time, it will be easy for us to get admissions in good private schools.”

Altogether 13,15,371 candidates took the Inter exams at 1,339 centres across the state from February 6 and February 16 this year while 16,60,609 students appeared for the Matric examinations at 1,418 centres from February 21 to 28.

Magadh University exams postponed: Magadh University (MU)-Bodh Gaya has decided to hold its BA, BSc and BCom Part II examinations from June 8 instead of March 18 in view of the Lok Sabha elections. “The fresh examination schedule will be uploaded to the website of the university soon,” MU controller of examinations wrote in a communiqué to principals of all colleges affiliated to the university.
