The district police have earmarked space below the newly constructed flyover in the city for parking vehicles.
With traffic congestion being a perennial problem in the city, a flyover was constructed at GH Roundabout connecting Brough Road, Perundurai Road and E.V.N. Road.
The flyover was opened for traffic last month. Commercial establishments that were located in large numbers on both the sides of Brough Road were complaining that their business was affected due to the flyover as vehicles could not be parked in front of the shops. In the absence of space for parking at these establishments, customers have to park their vehicles on the road.
They made a representation to the district administration and the Superintendent of Police for allotting parking space below the flyover. Now, white lines have been drawn below the flyover and motorists have been asked to park their vehicles there.
A total of 75 cars, 12 call taxis, 12 autorickshaws and 150 two-wheelers are permitted to park in the allotted area. The motorists are asked to park their vehicles within the lines so that movement of vehicles on both the sides of the road is not disturbed. The police have asked the motorists to extend their cooperation in utilising the space and ensure no congestion takes place in the area.
