The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has finalised the candidature of TPCC working president Ponnam Prabhakar and former Minister A. Chandrashekhar from Karimnagar and Peddapalli reserved constituency respectively for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
Mr. Prabhakar had first contested the elections as MP from Karimnagar Parliament constituency and had won in 2009 elections. But in the 2014 elections, he lost to the sitting TRS MP B. Vinod Kumar.
In December 2018, he contested from the Karimnagar Assembly segment and lost the elections.
This general elections, the party high command has pinned high hopes on Mr. Prabhakar and has nominated him from Karimnagar Parliament constituency against TRS candidate B. Vinod Kumar.
Meanwhile, Mr. Prabhakar has already started his election campaign by visiting all the Assembly segments and boosting the morale of the party rank and file.
On the other hand, nominating Mr. Chandrashekhar from Peddapalli reserved constituency has come as a surprise to ticket aspirants. Several Congress leaders from Karimnagar district, including TPCC SC Cell chairman Arepalli Mohan, Kavampalli Satyanarayana, former ZP Chairman A. Laxman Kumar and others expected the party ticket.
