Want votes? Meet demands: Borivli locals to candidates

Lack of speed breakers, illegal hawkers, mobile towers in public spots are some of the “burning issues” politicians and authorities must address ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, according to a hoarding recently put up outside a Borivli park by the Chikoowadi Residents’ Welfare Association.

More than 5,000 residents of Chikoowadi — one of the biggest housing colonies in Borivli (West) — have come up with this charter of demands after years of seeing their issues remain unsolved by political representatives who come and go.

“With elections around the corner, politicians in the neighbourhood will come asking for votes, but no one will be concerned about the issues of residents here. Through the banner, we wish to send out a clear message to all the political parties that only those who will do something about our issues will get our vote,” said Sanjeevani Bhor, a local resident and a member of the association.

“No politician has considered addressing some of our basic issues over the past few years. We have thus decided to show them the strength of our votes. Many of us have decided to press the NOTA button in the elections to protest the apathy of all these politicians to the issues of people here,” said a resident on the condition of anonymity.

Kiran Motani, secretary of the association. said, “We have put up the demands so that at least someone takes note. From our local corporator to candidates who will contest elections now, we want to reach out to everyone.”
