AHMEDABAD: The first commercial run of the Ahmedabad Metro will begin from Friday. The free trial run of the metro train on the 6.5km stretch between Vastral Gam and Apparel Park began from March 6. The Metro officials claim that a total of 75,917 passengers took the free rides on the metro train.
During the commercial run the train will operate between 11am and 5pm and will be available at an interval of 25 minutes. The first train will leave from Vastral Gam at 11am and the same train will again leave Apparel Park on its return journey at 11.25am.
The authorities on Thursday had organized a trial run of the metro train for AMC office bearers including mayor Bijal Patel, standing committee chairman Amul Bhatt and the councillors. The officials said that Thursday was the last day for free rides and from Friday onwards anyone wanting to board the train will have to pay Rs 10 to travel between Apparel Park and Vastral.
The officials said that the second train has already arrived, and the safety tests are going on. Once the second metro train is certified, it will also begin its journey. The Metro authorities said that as the escalators and ticketing system are yet to be installed at all the stations, the authorities have decided that the train will not halt at any station barring Vastral Gam and Apparel Park. Metro authorities said that the escalators have arrived and will soon be installed.
