SC stays contempt punishment against Shillong Times

The on Friday put on hold a High Court order holding the of The Times, Patricia Mukhim, and publisher guilty of contempt and fining them Rs 2 lakh each.

A bench of Ranjan Gogoi, Justice and Justice issued notice on their plea challenging the High Court order.

The High Court had said that in the event of failure to pay the fine, the two would undergo simple imprisonment of six months and the publication of the newspaper would be banned.

The contempt proceeding was initiated against on the basis of two reports published on December 6 and December 10, 2018 under the caption "When for themselves" and "High Court pursues retirement benefits to judges, family".
