Rs80 lakh cash seized on Maha border

Nagpur: Cash Rs80 lakh, being ferried in two cars, was seized by a joint team of police and revenue department at Satnur in Kelvad on Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh border. The cars were headed to Nagpur district when they were intercepted. A day ago, cash Rs7.60 lakh were intercepted at Deolapar.
Sources in the police department said two cars were intercepted during the joint checking under the supervision of district collector Ashwin Mudgal and SP Rakesh Ola. The first car (MH49 BB801) had cash Rs30 lakh. The second one (MH31 FA 6961), had cash Rs50 lakh in it. Prima facie, it’s learnt the cash belonged to a ginning mill owner.
Mudgal said 36 static surveillance teams (SST) have been formed across the district for 12 assembly segments. “The latest catch was by SST Saoner while the earlier interception a day ago had been by Ramtek team,” said Mudgal.
“The cash has been handed over to the IT department to find out the money trail as per law and regulations followed after the model code of conduct is imposed. The cases shall be disposed of accordingly,” he said.
Till going to the press, formalities were underway at the tehsil office in the presence of income tax officials.
