Police said he allegedly stayed in the house with the body since March 5

The Lawspet police on Wednesday arrested a 28-year-old man on charges of murdering his mother. He surrendered before the police on Wednesday.

The police gave the name of the accused as J. Amalorpavanathan. He allegedly murdered his mother J. Jayamary, 51, during a quarrel on March 5 and stayed with the body in their house in Krishna Nagar extension in Lawspet.

Heated argument

The police said Jayamary was the second wife of Jayasekara Udaiyar who died in 2013. Jayamary, along with her son, purchased a new house and settled in Krishna Nagar recently.

Amalorpavanathan had rebuked his mother for allegedly having affairs with several men. This triggered a heated argument between them on March 5 and Amalorpavanathan allegedly stabbed her to death.

The accused stayed with her body for over a week and surrendered before the Lawspet police on Wednesday. The police found the decomposed body in the house and sent it to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

He was remanded in custody.
