Tarundeep Rai and Deepika Kumari shine in trials

The top three will take part in the World Championships

Tarundeep Rai and Deepika Kumari emerged the best archers in the recurve selection trials at the KIIT University ground here on Friday.

Tarundeep, who topped the ranking round, was second in the round-robin one-on-one, competition among the top 12, and gathered 11.5 overall points to push Atanu Das (11), the best in the round-robin, to the second place. Both won nine of their 12 matches.

National champion Pravin Jadhav (9.5) was third after managing five victories.

Deepika, who had taken the number one slot in the ranking round, also won nine matches to claim the top place in the round robin stage. She picked up 12 points overall.

L. Bombayla Devi (9.5) and Komalika Bari (8), who tasted success in six contests apiece, were second and third respectively.

The top four will compete in World Cup I and III, while the bottom four will participate in World Cup II. The top three will take part in the World Championships, which is an Olympic qualification event.

Women: 1. Deepika Kumari (12 points), 2. L. Bombayala Devi (9.5), 3. Komalika Bari (8), 4. Madhu Vedwan (8), 5. Preeti (7.5), 6. Sakshi Shitole (7), 7. Promila Daimary (7), 8. Anikta Bhakat (7).
