Driving down the two-way Santhome High Road requires great caution, especially near the sharp turns on the stretch and at certain intersections.
Residents and motorists have requested the Chennai Traffic Police to deploy traffic personnel at important points like Demonte Street and Madha Church Road during rush hour.
Motorists navigating the intersection throw caution to the wind, and this results in chaos and congestion.
Those coming from Madha Church Road do not stop at the intersection before entering Santhome High Road towards Foreshore Estate.
Similarly, motorists coming from All India Radio take a free right turn to enter Madha Church Road, without signalling. This section of Santhome High Road is lined with big educational institutions. Students are at risk while crossing the road. The stretch has a steady flow of vehicles through the day, say residents.
Negotiating through the intersection is an ordeal. “Motorists cut through the traffic from all directions and swerve left and right,” said G. Krishnan, a resident of Palavakkam. Chennai Traffic Police officials have promised to deploy a traffic constable at the junction.
