Bhavan’s outreach event provides musical treat to residents

A week-long annual cultural outreach programme of Tiruchi Kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, supported by Infosys foundation, provided a musical treat for residents of Srirangam and other parts of the city recently.

The programme, organised in association with Sri Raghavendra Mutt at Srirangam, was inaugurated with a traditional nadhaswaram concert by Harikrishnan and party. The following day, young flautist V.M. Jothisharma accompanied by T. Subramoni on the violin, Vijayashankar on the mridangam and Sekar on the ganjira provided a graceful recital.

On subsequent days, B.Jayashree with young violinist Shruti Ranjani and Tiruchi Swaminathan on the mridangam presented a neat concert, coupled with bhajans, while young Prithivi Harish along with Pudukkottai Ambikaprasad on the violin and Koppu Nagaraj on the mridangam delivered a solo performance.

The veena duo of senior artiste, B. Sivakumar, and his disciple N. Akilandeswari, accompanied by Madhvaprasad on the mridangam and Tiruchi S. Krishnawami on the ghatam, regaled the audience during the festival.

Apoorva Sai Gautamn, along with Shruthiranjani on the violin and Rangesh on the mridangam, delivered a neat vocal on the penultimate day of the festival. The festival concluded with a concert by Anusuya with Andhanallur brothers Lakshminarayanan on the violin, Renganathan on the mridangam and Agasthiar Girish on the ganjira .

With the support of Infosys Foundation, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was seeking to foster young talent through such events. So far, nearly youngsters have performed at the music programmes organised by the Kendra, according to a press release.
